mission
of the
Pohatcong
History
&
Heritage
Society
is to
preserve
and
interpret
the
social,
cultural,
natural,
and
architectural
history
of
Pohatcong
Township
in order
to
foster,
among
all
Pohatcong
residents
and
visitors,
a deeper
appreciation
of the
township's
historical
significance
and to
ensure a
successful
balance
between
future
growth
and the
preservation
of the
township's
historic
integrity.
Our
Goals
To
provide
a
comprehensive
resource
for
researching
properties,
people,
and
events
connected
to
Pohatcong.
To
promote
learning
and
dissemination
of
information
through
programs,
brochures,
internet,
events,
etc.
To
affect
growth
and
development
so that
it
minimizes
impact
on the
historical
resources
of the
township
and, if
possible,
contributes
to the
township's
historical
integrity.
To
foster
the
preservation
of
historically
significant
properties
throughout
the
township.
To learn
from and
build
upon the
efforts
of other
historically-minded
groups.
To
foster
an all
inclusive
membership
and to
promote
a sense
of
community
and
fellowship
among
both
residents
and
visitors.
To
facilitate
the
process
of
placing
township
properties
on the
Local,
County,
State
and
National
Registers
of
Historic
Places.
Historic House Tour

Ride back in time on the
Delaware River Railroad Excursionsbehind
steam locomotive #142.The train will take
you to just North of "Pinchers Point" along
the Delaware where you will board a bus on a
docent guided tour of three beautiful
houses. You will see Finegans beautiful log
home, Amy Hollanders Grist Mill and Mary and
Bob's "George Hunt
Homestead".
You will receive an informative brochure
with plenty of information about the houses.
After the house tour the bus will take you
to Villa Milagro Vineyards for Hors D'orvres
and wine tasting, then back to the steam
train for your homeward bound trip to
Phillipsburg.
